Same here, have to be so cautious with it.The gimbal cover is the only thing I don’t like about the M2. So fiddly.
Thanx Scro! Great and very informative answer! You'll get "gimbal overload" messages when you switch it on. The gimbal does a quick movement check by swinging through its full motion range in 3 axes and the gimbal cover prevents it from doing this. The drone realises the gimbal isn't moving and sends an error message to your app screen. Not recommended, but also unlikely do damage the gimbal if you don't make a habit of it.
If you're worried about forgetting to remove it then tape a piece of red ribbon to it so it's really obvious it's still on. Similar to the "remove before flight" ribbons used on big aircraft (thanks, Shutterstock, for the image)

I've left it on loads of times and so far no damage. I now have a red Velcro ribbon around it and I still forget to remove it occasionally.Hi, its has not happend to me yet... but if I forget to take away the gimbal cover and fly .. will it ruin the camera and gimbal?
Totally agreed...they should have made it bigger like the mavic proThe gimbal cover is the only thing I don’t like about the M2. So fiddly.
Nothing like your drone blowing a raspberry to help you remember! After forgetting to remove it more times than I’d like to mention, I decided to make it really obnoxious. It’s helped.
I like it!
