Welcome to our forum, from Texas, USA!

You'll find that both the Air 2 and the Mini almost fly themselves. This can lead to overconfidence. Try to be conservative at first, and expand your horizons gradually. The Mini, at only 249 grams, doesn't handle wind as well as the heavier drones do. On windy days--you get those in BC--, it's best to fly the Mini so that you have a tail wind on the way back.

Read your manual, and practice using "Find My Drone". Chances are you'll crash and perhaps lose your drone. Don't wait 'til that happens to try to learn under stress in less than ideal conditions. We have several fellow Canadians among our membership, and over 100,000 more from around the world who will help you learn your new hobby. Ask for help when you need it. Share your work when you can!

Glad you've joined us!

Have played with a Tello which I recently passed on to my son when I purchased a Mavic Mini. Working my way through the various material to get my Basic flight certificate, and hopefully go on from there. A Mavic Air 2 is awaiting my successful completion of my studies.

Hello from Calgary. I too have a mini and have gotten my basic drone certification from Transport Canada. Unfortunately, in Calgary, the city bylaws prohibit flying a drone that is over 250 grams without a special permit each time you want to fly. Basically, that means the MA 2 can only be flown on private property ( with permission) or certain areas of crown land. So before upgrading your drone, be sure you know your jurisdictional bylaws. Anyway, I hope you have more freedom in your area and good luck on getting your certificate.
Cheers,
