Hi, I'm looking for a means of controlling a drone so that it flies following preset 3d waypoints. The means of setting these waypoints can either be gps data or distances from the take off point. I would also like to control the direction of the camera. All of this being done beforehand and preferably free. I have looked online but I can't seem to find any app that does this. I have heard litchi is capable of doing what I described but evidence I have seen online hasn't shown whether the altitude can be changed between waypoints. Any advice would be appreciated.

Litchi combined with Google Earth works.
Search for "Google Earth" (use quotes) in this forum for pertinent threads.
There are also at least two explanatory videos on YouTube (try searching for "3d waypoints" or something similar. I believe there are links to YouTube in some of the pertinent threads mentioned above.

Litchi waypoints include altitude information and you can set the altitude.

Litchi also allows you to set relative AGL at waypoints. IE, fly at 350' AGL at waypoint 2, 300 AGL at waypoint 3, etc.

I use this feature extensively here in the mountains of Idaho for preprogrammed search & rescue grids that follow the terrain elevations at a constant height.

Litchi, GoogleEarth and Litchi Virtual Mission (LVM) combined. LVM lets you plan and run a 3D simulation of your flight, it helps for checking camera angles, etc., but it is especially useful for checking how safe your route is in terms of it showing you if it should clear terrain and obstacles based on your route and altitude settings. VLM is a free extension for GoogleEarth.
