Is the Air 2S bigger image sensor really worth a upgrade from an Air 2....

That's my question for people that have had both. I am waiting for the Mavic 3 now and if the Air2s would of worked with the V2 goggles i would of pulled the trigger... but i just really do wonder how much difference the bigger sensors on the camera for the air2s really makes. That's really the only functional benefit for it i can quantify.

The bigger sensor makes a huge difference in low light, which means overcast days and near dawn / dusk. It also generates a larger photo image that you can crop in post to tell your photo story better.

If I just owned the Air 2 and was set on getting the Mavic 3 when released I might wait, but I own both the Air 2 and the Air 2S..... I feel the Air 2S is so well suited to my needs that I don't know if I will buy a Mavic 3. I like the images the 2S produces and the price of the drone & batteries make it a winner.

The Mavic 3 is almost guaranteed to be close to $2000 and would have to have Skydio level avoidance as well as a 4/3 sensor for me to consider making a leap.

I hear you, that lower light thing bugs me on my air 2... I shoot a lot of low light stuff...

The cross compatible batteries is very lucrative to me... but i still think im gona end up getting a Mavic 3 when it comes out and may just transition to use that most of the time... hopefully for a even better camera and ability to work with the v2 goggles (crosses fingers). IF i could get a bare used Air2S for under 600 i would pick one up but im seeing them for 800-900 bare bones.

Deleted the original comment because I noticed the OP asked for the opinions of those who have or had both. I don't.

PS...I'd be willing to bet that DJI goggles will never be compatible with the Air 2S.

For me, it was a complete no brainer. The image quality with stills and video is significantly better than the Air 2 I had before.
However, I'm a photographer first and a drone pilot second and so image quality is paramount for me. It all depends on how much weight you place on that.
For the vast majority of people, the Air 2 is more than adequate and can take spectacular footage.

I have a feeling a bigger sensors would help out with these type of shots I am constantly doing...

A 1 inch sensor makes all the difference I don’t even have the air 2 S I have the air 2 and the two pro and watching the movies on a large screen TV the 1 inch sensor blow the other ones out of the water

The 1-inch sensor does make a huge difference

I have both. Yes. It's a big difference.

If you really want a better picture it's worth the upgrade. The question of the M3Pro will hang out there until its release. Yeah, I want one, but at this price, today, I felt that it's absolutely worth the upgrade. My photos proved it to me.

These questions turn mostly on your viewing conditions. With an UHD tv sitting close to it the improved image quality is quite apparent. With still photographs blowing up to large prints the differences are also quite apparent.

The sensor in the Air2S is VERY noticeably better if you have "less than ideal" lighting/contrast/dynamic range" conditions for your shot.
In bright/well-lit/well-balanced conditions, the differences will not be as great and the MA2's results will be very comparable.
Besides the much bigger sensor area, there is definitely some newer technology going on and even in the same conditions, the Air2S has a better image.

Hi
I have a question,as you have both.
I have the air 2 and photograph shipwrecks,it does a fairly good job,but am wondering
what difference the air2s would make with that big sensor.
I would think it would be better flying over water ,do you have any advice.
Bring on the M3pro,but will be costly when available.
Have a good day
