I'm an experienced flier, and can't imagine ever crashing on my own, but thanks to some dumb coding in Litchi my Mavic backed into the side of my garage.

I'll try to keep this short. I created a great path by flying it first. (I did this because my extensive testing of Litchi showed that there was a lot of play when it flew a preplanned route.) I made certain that all of the sideways and backward flying happened with no obstacles within 100 ft. And then for the last segment I turned the Mavic in the direction of flight just to bring online obstacle detection as an added precaution against the Litchi "drift." Then, last minute, to make sure the gimbal angle was correct I added a POI at the far end of the route. What I didn't realize was that the POI overrode all my previous headings and every waypoint was now facing that one POI. And sure enough, instead of turning around on the last leg it flew backwards all the way, and then a good 20 ft past where I set the final waypoint. Then add the fact that I have seen no quick way to override Litchi's control and I helplessly watched as a $20 app flew my $1000 Mavic into a wall. I know about Litchi's pause button, but in my testing, there's a delay (maybe 2-5 secs). It did no good.

So words to the wise: recheck every aspect of your route before you start, and keep your finger hovering over the pause button EVERY TIME you fly it. Just because it flew right once, doesn't mean it will the next time. My understanding is that GPS is supposed to be accurate within 5-10 ft. Not with Litchi. From now on I'll never allow a flightpath or a waypoint within 50 ft of any solid object.

Best of luck!

Another very simple way prevent your issue, would have been to fly the route the first time, ABOVE any obstacles. Lets say at 100'. Then lower the mission height once you are confident that you are programming it correctly.
Hope the prang was not too serious.

I'm sorry for this. Have crashed my Mavic against a wall, too, but under other circumstances. However, I know how you feel. Do you have total loss of your device? I could fix mine though it fell from 6m on solid rock...
Best, Randolph

Thanks for the good words everyone!
As it turns out the only permanent damage is cosmetic. I was getting a system error that my left front camera was out, but with help from YouTube I was able to pop the top and reseat the dislodged connector.
So, now I'm ready to try again at a higher altitude. Even so, I'll never fully trust Litchi due to the variation I've seen when re-flying the same route. So from now on my finger stays over the Sport switch.

Many happy returns!

Yup . Sport Switch is the Brake! :)

Lichti has so many features that I am constantly reading and re-reading how to accomplish certain tasks.

I have flown over 100 Litchi missions without incident. Before I fly each new mission, I step through each waypoint in ascending order to check altitude and POI heading.

I have yet to fly it backwards but I am sure I will one day and will keep you experience in mind. Thanks for you post.

Oddly enough I flew my feet "backward" Litchi flight this afternoon and was wondering how reproducible the flight path was. I was flying a few feet over a small river underneath overhanging trees. Probably a good 10 feet either side in most places and slightly less above - but a couple of branches and a rope swing to watch out for.

I was flying for video, so running very slow - but with my finger on the pause button and moving along the bank keeping watch. All went without incident (but my heart rate was high!)

My intention was to fly the routes again in the spring when the trees have some leaves on and maybe walk into shot myself across the stepping stones (after the drone has passed) From what you say that might be too risky.

Based on my experience, that wouldn't work where I live. I know GPS is not equally accurate everywhere, and maybe I live in a less reliable area, but I'm seeing up to 10-20 ft of variance every time I fly the same route with Litchi. That said, DJI Go is always dead accurate with RTH.
