The reason for the spinning was if I lost control one way or the other watching it spinning would give a instant warning.
I e it would stop. Thus giving me a better chance to go to plan b

And I can understand your caution for sure. Which drone are you flying? I would think the forward and backward sensors would be able to let you know if you were getting too close. And of course a M2P would have side sensors as well.
