Hey guys,
I wanted to ask as I’m a real pilot but a new drone pilot.
When recording in manual mode, does that mean that your flying in one direction and you can edit later?
Or can you fly in all directions in manual (without adjusting anything) and then edit the video (which is recorded flying in all directions) later in editing?

Hi again, I didn’t understand what you mean
?
Greg... if you use the camera in manual mode you can set shutter speed and ISO on your controller. There are other setting for the camera that you can make from you computer vid DJI software.
Is that what you’re asking... screenshot may help if not.

I think maybe im not explaining clearly. I’m watching all kinds of YouTube video to help me. They said “Use manual mode” so that you can have better raw footage for post production.
So if I’m in manual and flying around in all directions, do I need to change anything in the settings? Or do I just fly in manual and edit afterwards?
Best
Greg

Either you’re confused, or we‘re confused, but let me see if I can explain it well enough.

“In manual mode” could be two things. Yes, I guess technically speaking, if you’re not flying in one of the many pre designated flight modes, then you are flying in manual mode.
However, as stated above, to most of us when referring to the photographic capabilities of the UAV, when we mention “manual mode” we are referring to using the manual option of the camera where the user can set the iso, shutter speed, etc. Using the features of manual mode, if you’re a somewhat experienced photographer, can help you produce the best quality picture with the post production capabilities that manual mode gives you.
So, without knowing in what context the video you were watching was referring to “manual mode”, it’s hard for us to provide further detail However, your last sentence of

They said “Use manual mode” so that you can have better raw footage for post production.

leads me to believe that video was referring to photography post production, therefore the manual mode that they speak of has absolutely nothing to do with the flight of the UAV.

In other words if I fly my Mavic 2 in all directions in one flight in manual, I still will need to adjust shutter and all while I’m flying even though I will edit after.?

On another note, I have attached a pic from my Mavic air this summer in Greece. Now do you see the little red dot on the bottom right of the sun? How do we get rid of that technically?

if I use a polar filter, if you rotate the filter while on the camera and while looking at the sun through the screen you can see that shinny dot moves around the sun, and I can’t get rid of it. Any ideas?

thanks
Greg

Manual photography mode can be affected with different aspects of flight, since pointing the camera in different directions may change the scene lighting. With your example, flying into the sun would be different than away from it. Each requires different photography settings. Many can be corrected in post.

If it is a photograph, sure with the right software. Whole people can be removed and added. Even with video the right software should be able to remove it.

Yes the red spot other than the sun, is from the reflection of the camera lenses bouncing back the reflected image of the sun. In a still image you can easily remove it. In video, as the drone/camera moves around, that red spot will also move around, so will not be as easy to correct. No mater how you fly, you may well have to do some post editing, either video or still shots after your flight to get what you expect, as a scene. Unless, of course, you are perfectly happy with what the camera has captured for you.

If you are new to photography, there is usually nothing wrong with shooting still images as Jpegs and video in an auto setting (unless you are not happy with the outcome, of course). A lot less work for the user afterwards plus a lot less space used for storage on the SD card and your HD on the computer. It depends on what you finally image is meant for.

Thank you for your extensive comment. This picture is from a video I took. Then paused it and took a screen shot.
even if I take out the nd filter the dot will be there. If I add a pollar filter, then I can turn the filter and stop it when the dot is under the sun. That’s the best I can do on video. Ok if you say I can take it away as a still pic in post. I will learn to do so. But I have checked everywhere in the net. I cannot find a more detailed sun shot than the one I uploaded here. From a Mavic air ?

Hi Greg, it seems your questions are regarding videography and photography. The camera in the M2P is just a camera, a nice one, but nothing special. If you look to videography and photography information sites on line you might find the guidance you are looking for. And you can find tutorials on image making as well as how to edit images. Image making can be frustrating.

Thanks a lot. This pic was made with Mavic air, which I’m selling now to buy the M2P. Of course I hope the camera in the M2P is better than the Mavic Air. I still cannot find anywhere on the net a picture of a sunset or video that has the sun so clear and crisp as this pic. Thanks for your help ??
