Mavic Air battery mods

Rather buy an extra battery personally.
For short range photography, yes, but these are not meant for that. These are meant to allow your Mavic to fly out as far as 40k feet away, not to hover 1000 feet in front of you.

completely ILLEGAL in the US - go ahead and screw us all by flying out of sight

To be fair, you don't need battery mods to fly far out of sight - the stock drones already can fly far out of sight. Somewhere in the 500m range I suspect most people can't even see the drone anymore, but I would agree that the more people that push the limits, the more likely we are to have stricter rules.

Actually I'm only looking for to increase my hover time. I'm not planning to do range tests. I just hate to change the battery many times.

The size of this little baby? I lose sight of my MA at any more than 100m!!

Rule in Canada is made to be broke with the 90 meters limited height. An other law take by someone don't even know what is doing.

Illegal? Can you cite the laws?

This is quoted from FAA:

§ 107.31 Visual line of sight aircraft operation.
(a) With vision that is unaided by any device other than corrective lenses, the remote pilot in command, the visual observer (if one is used), and the personmanipulating the flight control of the small unmanned aircraftsystem must be able to see the unmanned aircraft throughout the entire flight in order to:

(1) Know the unmanned aircraft's location;

(2) Determine the unmanned aircraft's attitude, altitude, and direction of flight;

(3) Observe the airspace for other air traffic or hazards; and

(4) Determine that the unmanned aircraft does not endanger the life or property of another.

(b) Throughout the entire flight of the small unmanned aircraft, the ability described in paragraph (a) of this section must be exercised by either:

(1) The remote pilot in command and the personmanipulating the flight controls of the small unmanned aircraftsystem; or

(2) A visual observer.

To be honest, it is illegal, but that does not mean I’m going to stop flying far.

Not sure how helpful that is, especially if you trying to get to 40k feet because your going to have a significant amount of extra weight from a lipo pulling it down, which means it’ll require more power to keep it stable and a lower top speed.

On the other hand, in gps mode I barely get 18 minutes on/off flying so it could be an interesting try.
