Can someone help me out with a metar read. What does few050, few 0150, few250 mean? Looking at a weather report for jfk and this part is throwing me for a loop. TIA.

FEW in a metar reading, I believe refers to cloud cover.
The 050 and such is the amount of feet ( in hundreds) in which the clouds are located.

Read as a few clouds at 050 ( in hundreds), a few at 0150 and so on.

The legand on the back of the chart should explain all the simbology on the chart.

Few=1 to 2 oktas.

SKC, Sky clear= 0 oktas
SCT, scattered= 3-4 oktas
BKN, broken= 5-7 oktas
OVC, overcast= 8 oktas
CAVOK= ceiling and visibility ok

BKN and OVC constitute a ceiling.

As previously mentioned the umbers are cloud heights, agl.

The example you were asking about says few clouds at 5000’, 15000’ and 25000’.

Here’s a good link for you-

Only the top line is the METAR, which is issued hourly. The other lines are the TAF (Terminal Aerodrome Forecast). The times are always shown in 24 hr Zulu (GMT).

Thanks to all my new found friends. Getting familiar with the reporting done at my area airports. This one (few050 and up) stump me. Lol. So I turned to my new home at the forum, which is always a learning experience.you guys / gals are the best.
