Got my Mavic today and have some questions.

What am I missing if I have the data turned off on my phone while flying?

Am I putting the mavic at any risk by doing so?

If I view maps of the areas I intend to fly at within the DJI GO4 app at home with wifi and have them cached. Will the maps be in real time when I fly without any internet connections?

One unrelated to data, is there a way of having the RC not charge the phone? Does it use much of it's charge to charge the phone?

Thanks

If the maps are cached - you're missing absolutely nothing, and adding zero danger to your flight. I use a dedicated phone with no SIM card - ergo, no data connection; works like a charm.

Most, if not all, Android devices charge while plugged into the controller. The effect on RC battery life is negligible. There are no options for disabling this charging function.

Edit: your best bet is to have your Android device fully charged before flying.

If data is only used for maps, why are so many people avoiding connecting to the internet while using Go4? Other than using up data.
Does your flight activity get sent somewhere?

I believe most of the people avoiding connecting are also avoiding updating their RC/drone firmware to prevent DJI from controlling when and where they can fly their drone.

Ah ok. I got messages to update FW and NFZs, was able to ignore both.
