We spent several days in the famous Blue Forest in the Mana Pools National Park of Zimbabwe. The forest is famous for its wonderful light, causing a serene blue haze and soft colors in photos. It is also famous for their elephants, who are well known for reaching up to trees for seed pods, often standing on their hind legs. The blue haze comes from the Faidherbia albida or the Ana Tree (Apple-rind ThornTree)
The pods are an important source of food for the elephants particularly in the hot dry months.
The apple-ringed seed pods from the Faidherbia albida is one of the reasons why animals thrive on the floodplains in Mana Pools.
