Just tried out the Motion Controller 3 with Goggles 3 (using head tracking) and the Mini 4 Pro. Love how the movement of the drone mimicks the movement of the Motion Controller when trigger is squeezed (to move forward/back). I hadn't realized that the only way to get the drone to rotate is by moving the motion controller. Am I correct in assuming that the only way to have the drone ascend and descend is by moving the mini joystick forward or back on the Motion controller? Or is there a way to ascend/descend also by moving the motion controller a certain way like when rotating it? Thank you.

You can point the controller up or down at a more extreme angle.

This is how I got up and down stairs as I am still becoming coordinated enough with using the mini joystick and trigger at the same time.

Awesome, thanks for that. There’s definitely a learning curve with the Motion Controller.

I haven't yet tried the latest mc but with the previous mc, you could use the 4-way joystick by pressing up and the drone will lift straight up even with no trigger pull.

Following instructions from jaja6009, I tried ascending/descending by tilting the Motion Controller back and down "at a severe angle", the same way a pilot would move their yoke, and.. very cool. For some reason however, a little while after swtiching to Sport Mode, the mini joystick on the MC3 would no longer work to ascend/descend. I ended up using RTH shortly after to bring it back as I realized that I then had less control to bring it straight down which made me nervous. Not quite sure what I did to disable the ascend/descend mode of the mini joystick on the Motion Controller.

Also have a Mini 34 pro here, and I've noticed that for some reason during my flights the direction of travel (circle) in my Googles 3 progressively separates from the direction my head is, casing my body to have to continually rotate around to straighten things out. Like a full 360 rotation of my entire body over a single flight.

Is there a way to prevent this? Am I piloting in a dumb way? I've found that by using pause and then by unpausing, it'll sync them back together, but that requires a full stop. Is there a better way?

Also have a Mini 34 pro here,

Is that the one with the 10,000 hour battery that allows it to fly to the moon and back using DJI's patented anti-grav thruster technology?

😁😁

A few notes on the MC 2 or 3:
  • There is a circle reticle in the view that moves around in response to the attitude of the MC. The drone will "go to" wherever that circle is when you pull the trigger. Tilt the controller back a bit (not extreme) and to the right (tilt, NOT twist), and the target reticle will be in the upper right quadrant of the view in the goggles. Pull the trigger, and the drone will make a climbing turn to the right, chasing the reticle.
  • With the trigger released, tilting forward/back will simply tilt the camera up and down as the drone hovers in place. Tilting left/right will have no effect. However, carefully pull the trigger back a tiny bit, and you will find a detent, a stop, that you have to pull just a little harder to get past. This detent activates yaw but no forward Motion. At this trigger point you can tilt left/right and make the drone yaw around while hovering in place. With the gimbal angle being controlled by the forward/back orientation of the MC, you have totally freedom to look around everywhere by tilting the MC as needed, while hovering in place maintaining altitude.
  • The joystick strictly controls vertical and roll movement, and is mostly unnecessary. The MC1 didn't have one, and even worse, didn't have reverse on the trigger (you can go backwards by pushing out with your finger on the trigger). Adding pure up/down, roll left/right, and reverse added isolated movement in all six directions, aping stick control, but I generally ignore the joystick unless I get in trouble in the woods or something and need those degrees of freedom to extricate myself. That would be with an Avata(2) however. That's not the sort of close-in flying you should be attempting with a Mini 4 Pro and the MC.
As for your seeming loss of joystick function in Sport, it's likely the rates and max speed for the control were just turned way down. N/S have separate settings in Fly, and a frequent oversight is to increase these settings for N thinking it's global, when it only applies to N.
