DSLRs are pretty inexpensive these days
If you are thinking aerial, the original magic pro is still a great drone and if you search well enough, I suspect you can get one for about $500
Otherwise use smart phone for candid family photos

She was researching Osmo Action but was turned off by its small size. I recommended a spark , mavic air or even a mavic 2 but i think faa regs scare her .
