First I'll say that I'm kind of surprised that there's no dedicated forum section for the Avata/FPV drones like there is for other DJI drones. It would make it easier to share info like this.

But to the problem at hand.

I've just flown my new Avata 2 3 times so far so I don't know if this is normal or a known issue but...

yesterday I was out flying and I kept getting a very pixelated view in the Goggles 3 and then I noticed the little "HD" signal bar kept going to red.

I was literally only about 30 meters away and the drone was in direct line of sight the entire time except for when it was going behind the occasional tree trunk for literally a few milliseconds.

Has anyone else seen this?

I also had a red banner that said something like "connect to DJI Fly outdoors".

Is this related in some way?

I looked up what that error message was but there's surprisingly little info on it. The only thing I saw was a thread on the DJI forum but it looked like the repair offered there by other users (not the DJI forum staff) was to factory reset everything and start from scratch. I find it hard to believe that's the answer.

Thoughts?

There is an FPV forum but this particular forum seems to be the one we all kinda "flock" too not sure why probably because all the cool drone people are here! lol
I would say that before I would suggest you try anything else to do the factory reset and start from scratch. Sorry but its the most practical thing to try since your problem is not well known.
Keep us posted and we will try and help best we can!

Would also recommend if that doesn't help, to "refresh" the drone's software with a cable and the Assistant software on the computer.

There is an FPV forum

Are you saying there is an FPV section on this Mavic Pilots forum? If so could you direct me there since I'm too blind to see it? 😄

I'll wait to do the factory reset to see if maybe the transmission issue resolves itself.

I had the "connect to DJI Fly outdoors" error pop up again yesterday briefly so I did what it might be suggesting is to actually connect the goggles to the DJI Fly app while the drone is running outdoors (I originally set it all up while cozy and warm inside the house) and I haven't seen it again. But I've only flown it once after I did that and the error pop up seems to be random. So no definitive way to know if that's really what it was asking for or not.

Once I determine what the final results are I'll try to make sure I come back and report what the status/fix was.

At the bottom of the page you will see links to other forums. All of these are great and are full of good info, However it seems that these other forums don't have near the participation of This forum.
I sometimes wish they would kinda combine them somehow BUT I bet that would be a nightmare to keep up with.
I post FPV related posts here sometimes ( in the off-topics ) But I urge you to go thru the other great forums Below for information you may need.
There is alot to the hobby of FPV. There are forums out there BUT they are FULL of product sales pitches and Trolls!
It would be great to find a dedicated FPV forum that was ran as well as these Mavic forums are.
Until that day, I will continue to sneak in a few FPV tidbits here and there in the off topics. I don't think they mind much as long as I stick to the rules.

You probably have a Bad OR badly made cable.
Is all your firmware up-to-Date?
Check
1. any cables (if any)
2. Firmware.
3. Enviroment (metal objects too close! wi-fi interference, etc...).
4. Check ports on drone for any fault.

@Cafguy

the thing is I actually wasn't connected from the goggles to my phone at the time the error popped up.

The first time I flew at my house after activation/setup I don't remember it popping up. Then a week later I took it my sons house and the error popped up right away and I couldn't figure out what it meant since it was kind of poorly worded and I'd never seen that on my mini 3 or mini 4 previously even tho I don't remember doing anything different with either of those.

then I flew at my house again a couple of days later and after a few minutes the error popped up. I kept flying until I needed to change the battery and I thought "what the heck I'll try it" and connected the goggles to the DJI Fly app with a cable and started flying. After that I don't remember the error popping up again.

I thought at first it was because I was flying in a different location than I had initially set the drone up and it needed to maybe download data for the new area. But then it popped up again when flying at home so I don't think that was it either now.

I guess we'll see if it pops up again the next time I get a chance to fly.

I don't see the selection below any more...but here is a link to the FPV forum
