I don't know if I was fortunate but here is what my experience was .

Charged batteries and rc downloaded dji go 4 ,
Turned on controller then drone then went to launch app
BUT WOW app opened on its own I've not heard of this on forums .
So app now open press to fly ans says it needs to upgrade firmware , I click OK the screan starts at 50% and finishes after about 2 minutes .
I'm thinking how can it be so easy and quick and thinking it won't be all done .
Take drone outside and launch .
No problems no battery upgrades no nothing . I'm sure some of it is because it's a newly manufactured drone but just last week I know some one who received a drone and it took at least 15 min to upgrade and had to do all the batteries as well .
I hope all my future experience as good and that my camera and gimbal work fine .
Just thought I'd post a positive message after reading so many gloomy ones .
All the best to new mavic owners

What version is the firmware you are now running ?

You can view current firmware by connecting the device to your computer and running DJI Assistant software. This also allows you to upgrade if necessary, or refresh if you think it wasn't fully updated, or even downgrade to an earlier version if you think the latest has regressed.

I have a possible answer for you. I activated my new Mavic last night, and it said the same thing with the same quick upgrade. After browsing the Dji app with everything powered up and connected, I went back to the home screen, and it said update available, so I started this one. This is the one that took 15 minutes. I suspect that the first one was a battery firmware update, and the second one was a system update. Flew it today and everything worked fine.

An automatic firmware update will update the drone and the battery that is currently being used in the Mavic. If you swop it out for another battery you'll be asked to upgrade the firmware for that one too, but it doesn't take long. I've never seen the mavic upgrade just the battery when informed of a new upgrade for the drone, unless the mavic came with the latest firmware and the battery didn't.
