Am I correct in assuming that as the new Tello drone only weighs 87grams (ie under 100 grams) that CASA rules for UAVs and model aircraft do not apply to it. Privacy Laws obviously still would

It's quite small, I had a play with it yesterday. Just fits in my hand (without prop guards).
Camera is quite decent, although no gimbal and only 720p.
Although it's not going to fall into CASA rules, the limitations on the device itself will mean it's not going to cause too much grief - it's got a 30m maximum distance.

Casa's rules do indeed still cover an rpa under 100gms. Its classed as a micro rpa. The only difference is that you can fly one within 5.5k of an airport.
