NFZ error on remote control

Was wondering if anyone knows, do I need the mavic pro 1 drone powered on and the remote to detect a NFZ condition. Or can I just pull out the remote, (anywhere I happen to be), power that up to see the NFZ warning?

You need the AC connected to the RC, as it's the AC that really detects the zone you're in based on its GPS.
