Palm Springs Area

I’ll be in Vegas in the fall for a few days, then driving to and staying in Palm Springs for a week. I’ll be driving thru the Mojave Desert anyone flown there? Last time I drove thru it, there were few cars on the road. Just want to take my Mavic up to take a few shots. Also, I know that drones are banned in the entire City of Palm Springs up to Cathedral City. Anyone know if there are some places just outside the city where I can fly without being hassled?

What does the City of Palm Springs do exactly if they catch you flying?
