for my knowledge sake, why is the water brown?

Hi Michael, the water is brown because the Yangon river travels quite a distance across a fairly flat terrain before reaching Yangon and it carries a lot of soil and sediments which give that color to the water. Those sediments result in alluvial deposits that make the land very fertile in the Yangon region and the Irrawaddy delta nearby.
