Pendragon Castle
40mph gusts of winds??? Despite that wind... Lets do it!!!
Pendragon Castle is a historic ruin in Mallerstang Dale, Cumbria, famed for its strong links to King Arthur legend, where Uther Pendragon supposedly built it and tried to divert the River Eden. Originally a Norman tower house from the 12th century, it saw destruction by Scots, rebuilding by Lady Anne Clifford in 1660, and further decay, becoming the romantic ruin seen today, privately owned but viewable from afar.
Myths claim Uther Pendragon (Arthur's father) built it; a local rhyme notes his failure to divert the Eden river around it.
The ruin stands on a knoll above the River Eden, with Wild Boar Fell nearby, near Kirkby Stephen.
See here the remains of a Norman keep, a 14th-century garderobe (toilet) turret, and later additions. The ruin is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade I Listed Building.
It has ppeared in films and TV shows like King Arthur (2004) and Merlin.
