Rising 604 meters, or 1,982 feet above Lysefjorden, Preikestolen is a steep cliff with an area atop the rock approximately 25 meters (82 feet) square. This is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Norway, hosting 300,000 visitors in 2024. Access is via a 2.4 mile steep trail with an approximately 334 meters (1,100 foot) elevation gain. Some people (like us) hike up in the later afternoon and spend the night at the top, hoping for a spectacular sunrise the next morning without any people. Sadly, we awoke to a completely fogged in situation.
