First let me say that I don't have a Mavic or any other DJI product. I have been reading the forum here for the last few weeks because I really am interested in the Mavic. I have seen the posts on the problems people have been experiencing, especially the "unexplained" behavior of the Mavic. I am wondering if the experts here have looked into the possibility of radio frequency interference. I mean the world is awash with technology that transmits RF on a wide band of frequencies. We don't pay any attention to it cause it really does not affect us. But the Mavic contains some very sensitive electronics. Is it possible that at least some of them have inadequate shielding, and in some locations, this could be the explanation for erratic behavior, lost GPS, flyaways, and the like?

i have had rfi interference reported on the transmitter twice:
once when wearing an apple watch, which i removed and the problem was solved.
the second was when i placed the mavic on a cast iron manhole cover for takeoff. also solved by just moving off the manhole cover.

RFI and appropriate shielding has been an issue for years and has steadily been addressed. Many of the issues seen here are certainly RFI - but not due to shielding issues, as much as being in crowded bandwidth space. The Mavic communicates on a common frequency, and so must delineate its signal which it does amazingly well. But try whispering in a crowded stadium to someone walking away from you. Doesn't work so well. Newbies need to be aware of radio congestion and physical interference (buildings, trees, hills, etc.) and operate accordingly. VLOS solves most problems but the touted range of 4.3 miles is making the uninitiated's eyes go wide and assume ranges that are unrealistic.

The Mavic is quite good reporting telemetry issues. I put my iPhone into airplane mode to minimize any close sources of RFI and have had no issues.

Caution if you fly indoors. The system is using the frequency spectrum that your WAP is using in your house. A strong wifi signal can force a brief disconnect.

I witnessed this the other day when playing with settings with everything idle. I was in a room right above the WAP and was getting disconnects.

Many are flying indoors and having issues and damage. Watch out for low light and strong wifi !

And conversely, my Mavic wreaks havoc on my home's wifi much to the chagrine of my family members.

And if flying the Mavic via WiFi from your phone inside, you better forget your home connection on your phone or any disconnects may result in your phone repairing with you're home signal. Better be quick to get to the settings and reconnect to the Mavic or its "Returning to Home" right into the ceiling.

Just for info, the Apple watch was RFI, but the second was MAGNETIC interference with the compass. :)
