Greetings fellow Pilots,
I'm looking for recommendations on RC helicopter brands and models.
As much as I love my quads, I would like to get a helicopter as well.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings from New Zealand! Check this video out for recommendations: Good beginner rc helicopters. In my opinion, Esky makes some good mid-range helicopters, so you might want to check that brand out.
Hope that helps,
Daniel M

Initial research is disappointing. $2000 for a helicopter with 10 minute flight time and 350m range??? Seriously? There has to be something comparable to say a mini 4 for a decent price...

Helicopters are different than drones. Higher prices, lower battery life and range, etc.

Have you flown an RC Heli? !! If so Goosky, If you hanvnt flown a Heli before you need to go small and simple A BLADE from spectrum. Don't go big on a Heli they can be Dangerous go small at first and adapt. Heli are VERY restricted and you cant go near anyone with them. If you are willing to spend 2000 why not buy an Iflight Cinelifter?

Why should they be that much different??

Well, Helicopters are less efficient (bigger rotors), bigger (and power-sucking) motors, and need (Much) bigger batteries in some cases.

As @Cafguy suggested, I would strongly recommend you start out small. Helicopters are much harder to fly, and in a crash, they can be lethal.

Captain Drone has been reviewing a good few of those recently. Here's one he liked for beginners...
And here's one that scared him for those who have skills !
Yes, the coast guard one is a good one for sure. One of my friends flies the same one, and he thinks it's great.

I have been flying RC my whole life..I flew or tried to fly helis a few times its just too darn scary for me I messed up and started with a big one (MISTAKE!) after the crash and thank goodness non injury I got a little blade chopper they are cool but in NO WAY are they a drone and they dont fly like them either!!! A cinelifter or any non DJI Drone doesnt fly like a DJI drone either, and there is a large learning curve to fly one with confidence.

I started out with this humble Esky Honeybee. I actually still have it in the depths of my hangar🤣.

My first was a big Kyosho Kit I must have bought 2 kits by the time I got it all pieced together (this was before the internet!) Once together I got it off the ground after sweating it out, and as it drifted towards me I freaked and I slammed it back down WAY to hard, and that was pretty much it!. My wallet still remembers those long ago days. LOL.

Yes I have and I'm well aware of how dangerous they can be, as well as quads. I'm just surprised that the tech for helicopters hasn't evolved as well as it has for quads.

Helis are a huge expense, I would much rather stick too FPV and that costs a bundle!

The quad tech hasn’t really evolved much in the last 10 years.
It is primarily the digital cameras on them that have evolved significantly.

Ya I guess ur right even the P2 had good stability and flight time and was far easier to fly than a helicopter. But I've had both early, cheaper, smaller quads and helicopters that had no auto flight modes, including no auto hover abilities and I know quite well how difficult both were to fly in complete manual "Atti" modes. That's why I went to DJI, far easier to fly their quads. I was hoping to grab a helicopter now with similar abilities for whatever price but not really seeing anything.

A Heli that flew like a DJI would be awesome! But you are missing out on a whole new world not flying a drone in Manual! I wont go back to "modes". ACRO is just too much fun to fly!

I started out with a cheap RC helicopter that would chop itself into pieces. Once quadcopters like DJI became mainstream, I never looked back. I didn't really care what mechanism was behind the camera tripod in the sky, and quadcopters were vastly easier to fly and hover, and still are.

I loved flying in manual with my P2 and P3. I wish that was still an option with the quads I have!
