I just replaced an older Mavic2 pro with a newer one and it wont fly, says remote id error, make sure dji fly can access mobile device location
I have no idea whats going on. Any advice, My smart controller has dji fly installed but says device not supported
have no idea what to do next, thanks

So you get that error when using the regular remote and mobile device? What device is it?

My guess is that the new bird is on a more recent firmware than your old one and has Remote ID. Remote ID requires the realtime GPS coordinates of the remote or not fly. If your device isnt giving the remote GPS data, either bc you are using an iPad without GPS or you haven’t given the Fly App location permissions then it won’t take off. Have a similar situation with the DJI FPV drone.

The smart controller should have GPS, I think, but you may need to update the firmware on the smart controller for it to work.

The Mavic 2 Pro uses DJI Go4 not DJI Fly.

Error with the DJI Smart controller, the DJI Fly app that is installed on the SC says it's not compatible on the SC. I downloaded the Fly App on my phone but there is no choice to control a Mavic 2 pro.
When I normally fly I just use the SC. This remote ID is new, to me, ....I have the current version DJI Go 4 on the controller. I don't know what else it could be. Seems like its just a software issue but nope must be more. What's really odd is that I already flew this drone once for a test spin and it all worked.

Thats what I figured but the controller in the error messages referenced the FLY app... according to GROK3 that is a mistake, it should not reference that app
It’s just a bug. I’m sure when they added Remote ID to these older models they didn’t take the time to proofread all the error messages.

So try DJI Go 4 on SC and phone. Make sure everything is up to date and that location services permissions are turned on for DJI Go 4.

The last thing to try if all else fails is to connect the smart controller to wi-fi and see if it flies then.

The crux of that error message is that DJI Go 4 isn’t getting the GPS data for the controller. Remote ID requires transmitting both the GPS location of the drone AND the remote controller. The regular Mavic 2 remote doesn’t have GPS so it has to get it from the phone. The SC should have GPS onboard so in theory it shouldn’t need a phone.

That is spot on !
Is your drones firmware up to date?

Ok so I think I found out what the issue may have been. Under settings, there is Location mode, it was on but I then changed the mode to High accuracy, from Battery saving. Today it flew, we'll see if it continues....
