That's known as Precision Landing. On an M1 you need to check a checkbox when taking off but with an M2 it's automatic as long as you take off going straight up for about 10ft before moving outward.

Thanks for this confirmation. I have yet to try that option. How was the flight back? Did the bird soar noticeably higher than your flight path? How far away was it? Anything else?

It wasn't too far away. It did rise to the altitude I had selected and came over.

Another cool thing is that as it hovered, before going into landing mode, the bird spun around to its original takeoff orientation.
