Second day here with the Mavic. This was a night flight. RTH point was saved by GPS. Almost full battery. RTH setting saved to 30m. I got a little disoriented flying at night so I pressed RTH. I was flying at less than 30m high and the drone started to descend and it said it was landing. I thought maybe I hit the wrong button so luckily I was able to quickly cancel it as it was going to land in my neighbors yard. Tried again and it didnt come back to its home spot. On the map it even showed it wasnt close to home. (probably 30-50ft away). This is new to me and I just found out how to upload the flight log so here it is.

Thank you in advance!

Did you quick press the RTH button on the Remote Controller or Press and HOLD the button? This is something that confuses most new pilots.

Man, you got a pair, flying at night your second day!

Who designs a ******* button that has to be HELD?
DJI does.
I assume this was done to validate the need to return to the home point and not begin the return home if a someone inadvertently pressed the RTH button due to improper placement of finger(s) . Like Fat Fingering a keyboard. That has to be the logic that the engineers used when developing this.

Seems you were actually flying considerable higher than you thought your were. 72.7m/238' when you hit RTH.

You were a mere 10.6 metres from the home point when you did so. As this placed you in the distance range of 5 m - 20 m from the home point, the system it is programmed to land immediately IF the forward vision system is deactivated. Even if it was activated FPS was probably inoperative due to the lack of light.

I think this could explain what went on. Next time get yourself more than 20m from home if you want to use RTH.

PS This is explained on p16 of the manual.
