Very stupidly I attempted to fly in a very strong wind. 40 mph gusting. This is the very end of the flight . As usual the Mavic makes everything look quite calm. Filming the railway line below and the Mavic is going further away (wind is roughly from behind me). I am pulling the right stick right back but Drone only slows does not come backwards. In desperation I pressed RTH, as you see Drone turns and comes back and descends. I can only assume that RTH opens up Sport mode in order to give the Mavic every last bit of power to get it to return home against the wind.

RTH does not activate Sports mode. It has to be activated by the pilot. If you were in Tripod mode and pressed RTH, then you would see a big difference in speed. ”Windy” is a nice app for weather forecast in particular wind speed. You can set it to show wind at ground level or at 100 m which could be good to know before you fly

Thanks in that case I will experiment with sport mode more as it might help in a similar case. Possibly the wind dropped a bit, it was gusting, which enabled the RTH to work. Will look for the app you suggest although why I never cottoned on that as the trees were bending over that it was too windy I will never know.
