Using M2Z and Smart Controller

I fly with a group of FPV guys. They predominately use various Fatshark goggles and different brand RC's on 2.4ghz. Whenever I crank up my gear they begin complaining that there's so much interference so I'm asked to locate further away from them.
Being that my gear uses occusync (automatic switching of 2.4/5.8 bands and channels), I'm thinking that I could just Custom set my gear to 5.8 only... OR find a 2.4ghz channel they are not using.

Would this work?
Is it safe to do so? (I'm not necessarily fly great distances when I'm with them)
If so, which band would be the safest?

I also placed these questions in the Smart Controller Section.

Thx.

I agree with @kidroc that it will work. My trepidation would be the loss of automatic switching should interference be encountered with the chosen channel. You're essentially giving up your back up ability for the convenience of others. Just remember to re-select auto-switching when you no longer fly around the FPV guys.

Thx everyone for your input!
