Hello all. currently in an undecisive predicament with regards to my next upgrade. Currently have Mini 3 Pro and looking to upgrade to one of the big boys. Bit of background what i am to achieve. My main aim is to video ocean animals. whales dolphins etc. So my main reason for upgrade is a drone with good zoom. Obviously the Mavic 3 pro has 3 lenses vs the Air 3s with 2 lenses.

Are both tele lenses the same on both units? is the 165mm lens on M3P usable? How good is the tele lens on the A3S. whats the point in me spending way more on the M3P if ill get the same if not better results with the A3S. What would make you pick one over the other?

Or do i just wait for M4P? it would be the least of my preferences truth being told due to the price its likely to be.

Thanks

No current DJI drones offer "good zoom." Instead they have multiple cameras with different telephoto lenses. Only you can decide whether 3x is sufficient or whether you also need 7x only available on the Mavic 3 series. The 3x tele cameras on the Air 3S and the Mavic 3 Pro are comparable. No need for the Mavic 4 Pro.

The short tele lens of the Mavic 3 pro is the same as the one on the Air 3S

Smaller sensors can't produce results as good as larger sensors do.
The long tele of the Mavic 3 pro is surprisingly good in good light.
In lower light levels, not so.

Here are some untouched comparison images from the three cameras of the Mavic 3 pro that might help you.

thanks for those pictures....they are really good gauges of the differences in the cameras

if cost is a major concern, pretty obviously the Air3S is quite a bit cheaper option

I don't have the Air3....I have a Mavic 3. My hunch is that the Mavic 3 Pro is superior to the Air3S. The 4/3 inch sensor vs the 1 inch sensor is part of that. But again, I'm looking at the Mavic 3 Pro Fly More Combo at $3000; while the Air3S Fly More Combo is $1600.

now, if you're willing to buy refurbished units, the Mavic 3 Pro Combo is $2400; and the Air3S combo is $1279

Drone Nerds and Adorama can often beat the prices for refurbished units at DJI

as for the Mavic 4 Pro...who knows when it will actually be available. And when it is it will be expensive. I've seen $3200-3600 estimates for the fly more combo with the DJI RC2. $4400 if you get the DJI RC Pro 2.

personally, I have how DJI forces customers to buy these drone with the RC or RC2. Those are tiny screens that perform poorly on sunny days

You should decide quickly, as very soon it will become much more expensive.
