I know lots of people like flying waypoint missions, especially when going BVLOS. Then they review the footage afterwards. I guess way points are also a good way to film the same thing and the progress of that thing over time, by being able to repeatedly fly the exact same route each say, week or month. You would get a nice time lapse that way.
I'm not big on way points myself. Years ago, when I first got a drone that could do it, I tried a BVLOS mission. It scared me too much being out of contact with the drone and having no situational awareness whatsoever. I'm not suggesting that's your plan. I'm just conveying my past experience.
