Newb question here--

Let's say youre standing in a forest and you fly your Air 2S above the canopy, but at some point you lose the signal.

What happens?

Does the drone just stay hovering until you move close enough to regain signal or the battery dies? Does it go in reverse along the route taken until you can regain control?

What should you do if you lose the signal/control/picture etc?

Read the manual carefully, there's quite a bit to the failsafe/loss of connection process and the RTH process in general. It is easy to miss the nuances and implications of some of the behaviours.

You should also be aware that the alternative failsafe options of "Land" or "Hover" can end up in an RTH.
If it is set to "hover" and, before a connection is re-established, the battery charge gets low enough the result will be a low battery RTH, the charge level at which that happens varies with distance from the home point.
If the option is set to "land", the drone can reject the landing site. In that case it will hover which, in turn, can lead to a low battery RTH.

Greetings from Birmingham Alabama USA, welcome to the forum!

Drop by the pilot’s check-in to introduce yourself, if you have already done so.

*** IMPORTANT - Make sure you have a good GPS lock before taking off

**UPDATE**
[Directly from the manual]

Failsafe RTH

If the Home Point was successfully recorded and the compass is functioning normally, Failsafe RTH
automatically activates after the remote controller signal is lost for more than 6 seconds. The aircraft will
fly backwards for 50 m on its original flight route, and then enter Straight Line RTH. If the aircraft is less
than 50 m from the Home Point when the video signal is lost, it flies to the Home Point at the current
altitude.
