I just spent the good part of the last week either in a hospital or passed out in bed! What tragic thing could have befallen me to end up in this predicament?...... Doing something that I was perfectly capable of doing only a few years back.
Don't think you are still young, That fantasy will come back to bite you in the butt big time!
helping my stranded buddy get back to town ended up giving me major heat exhaustion. and now I have to stay out of the sun for at least 10 days. Fountain of youth where art tho!!!!!!!!!

Heat exhaustion can sneak up quickly.

I work for an HVAC company and they are constantly telling the guys to stay hydrated with water and limit the caffeine intake.

Working in hot attics, humid crawl spaces, and outside can wear you out quick.

Take care of yourself Cafguy and get plenty of rest. 👍

I hear you, take care. All this stress in the world today is not helping either. Every week I try to break away from it and can't seem to do so....and sadly, it might be taking a toll on the health as well. :(

I have never done well in the heat and have always sweat profusely. I could manage but it just wasn't pleasant. Now that I am older, it just wipes me out. Yeah, getting old is a bummer. Get better!

Cafguy, Don't take this lightly; you need to look after yourself especially heat exhaustion and dehydration and your general health.

My wife works in healthcare, keeps harping about it to me all the time, however, I continue to ignore her, due to my high heat tolerance and minimal hydration requirements (I must have been a camel in my previous life). I'm significantly older, past maximum retirement age, still work full time, however, take care of my fitness condition, diet, exercise regimen etc. and continue to improve on it.

I hope you’re on the mend Cafguy and everything's well for you with rest and care. I came so very very close to having a heat stroke myself, but I was 22 at the time living in South Texas. I was flying gilders at a Navy Air Base during the weekend and way over did it being a redhead. If it wasn’t for my wife I would have stroked out without a doubt. When I showed up at home I was delirious and my skin was clammy. She immediately placed cold wet washrags under my armpits and placed me in the bathtub of cold water. She also gave me lots of water to drink. I finally did come out of it with rest in the air conditioning . As you said it’s very important to respect your age and limits, which is very difficult to do as none of us want to be old. When I look at myself in the mirror that’s not the same person I see in my Neo videos which is hard to accept. You may have well saved someone else from having this happen to them as well by posting your thread here.
As a side note I visited a new skate park in town last week and came so very close to walking the top leading edge of it as if I was still 20 and realized at the last second how risky that is for someone my age even though I still have excellent balance. My wife has reminded me more that once that I’m retired and that means I’m a old man now.

I got my first heat exhaustion when I was 11 so it's not necessarily the getting old thing.
The sun, now, seems to hit a lot harder than it did 50 years ago, though. I'm not sure it's the personal age that's 100% responsible for that.

But getting older isn't for sissies.
I've cheated the hooded skeleton a few times. I'm past my warranty by at least 40 years. Still have to go in for repairs now and then. Last time it was CHF. The nurse said "you seem to be not realizing that you might die" and I just replied "I've heard that before. Being depressed about that isn't going to make me better so I'll just keep cracking jokes".

Thank you all I will recover but it was a stupid move on my part and just to pile it on it pretty much occurred in…..Death valley! I tell my friends that visit from Texas how hot it will get here But it’s the same in West Texas. What is crazy about this place is that it instantly starts sucking moisture from your body, It’s so fast that in the valley if you start to get “sweaty and hot” then it’s probably to late to avoid heat exposure and you are in trouble. Lesson well learned!!!!!
