Why is the RC of MA2 so much bigger ?

Bigger than what??

Have been wondering. Anybody knows why ?

It's just the new design, I personally like this design a lot more than the previous one on my mini. Fit's in my hand better. There is also a smart controller which the MA2 has not been updated to support yet (to my knowledge as of today) but people say it's a good chance DJI will update it soon to support the controller.

Just got some info from other forums. It turns out that the RC of the MA2 has a much bigger battery so even if the phone is being charged when flying, the battery of the RC won't get depleted so quickly. This has been a major problem for Andriod users in the past. There is no way to stop the RC from charging the phone.

The Fly app has the option of turning off or on the phone charge function (at least, the iOS version does)

The old-type RC also has such setting but it works for iOS devices only. The lack of such setting for Andriod phone is reportedly due to some limitations deeply rooted in Andriod so DJI can't do anything about it.

My hands work very well with the new design. CHANGE, there has to be change/improvements/innovation imagine if DJI continues to make there consumer drones look like the Mavic Pro for the next 10 years. I'm surprised they made the MA2 look like the first Mavic consumer flagship model. Do you think DJI is going to innovate and produce there next consumer drone to look like the Mavic Air 2, Mavic Mini, the Mavic 2 Pro or Zoom and of course their Mavic Pro/Platinum/Alpine White how much longer can they produce the same body styles drone. Something had to change, so they chose the Remote Controller....

The controller battery (one site has said it is actually 2 batteries) is bigger at 5200 mah (compared with 2970 of the previous). Probably the biggest reason for the change. Android charge can not be disabled. With the longer flight times of the aircraft, you need longer controller battery time as well (and the phone). Getting 3 batteries worth of 30+ minute flights on the previous controller (and potentially phone) was probably getting close to its limits. The controller is no longer the limiting factor with 260 minutes of flight time (and I think I read somewhere 135 minutes while charging a phone, need to track that down again to make sure it is correct).

The Mavic air 2 does have a slightly different body shape on the top if you compare that with that Mavic two pro

Correct, that's why I say looks like, but maybe I should of said similar..

It's a little larger but much more comfortable in the hand and it puts the display up where it's easy to view. I've always felt my phone was insecure in the Spark and Mavic air one controller.
I'm thinking that the ADS-B in is also in the controller.
