The Salt lakes of the Mallee region in Victoria are an abstract photographer's delight. The salt lake is just a few cm's deep, and the salt crust underfoot is turned pink by algae. Some seasons it can be full of water and other's it's dry but all are sensational to photograph. It's beautiful to drone over when the wind is still. The water get windswept from one end of the lake to the other in mere minutes on occasion, and when the water is high and the salt crust is just forming , any indents in the crust like water runoff will show the red Mallee soil underneath.
