    Tracking drones over wildfires

It looks like the FBI is going to help firefighters keep wildfires free of unauthorized drones. Speaking as a former wildland firefighter and happy operator of an Air2S, it's about time! FBI assisting locals to detect drones over wildfires - Fire Aviation

Hot Air Balloons: how close can I reasonably get?

As far as I know, the only regulation is this: FAR Part 107.37 Operation near aircraft; right-of-way rules. (a) Each small unmanned aircraft must yield the right of way to all aircraft, airborne vehicles, and launch and reentry vehicles. Yielding the right of way means that the small unmanned...

    Manned Aircraft Pilot Poll

1986 11,600 2 I fly air tours on the strictly regulated commercial tour routes over Grand Canyon National Park. In the last three years, there have been at least two reports from tour aircraft of drones that were a direct hazard to the aircraft- one on the edge of the airport's class D airspace...

Air 2S is MUCH Louder than Air 2! Normal or not?

I have an Air 2s and a friend has an Air 2, and we often fly together. I really can't tell any difference between the two.

Thin red line on DJI Fly screen?

In the newest version of the Fly app, there's a thin red line at the top center of the display with text. It appears to be obstacle sensing because in the attached screenshot the Air 2s is sitting on my desk with a computer monitor in front of it. Is this correct?

Welcome from Flagstaff. I'm a hiker, writer, photographer, and active 135 pilot. It's very easy to get your UAS certificate.

Air 2s San Francisco Peaks, Arizona

I have been experimenting with vertical shots. And I'm experimenting with video as well. I'm a professional airplane pilot, so seeing the world from the air is not new to me, but I've never had the ability to loiter and shoot from low altitudes until now. It's revitalizing my interest in...

Method to determine increased elevation from launch point

You can use CalTopo (app or website) to display a topographic map. Then just put the cursor on a point to see it's elevation (and coordinates) displayed at the upper right corner of the map window. See the screenshot. There are number of topo map apps but CalTopo suits my needs.

    Tablet(s)

I have a Lenovo M10 for other purposes and it's a great tablet for the price, but it's no brighter than my Moto G Power phone, so I'm not tempted to fly with it. BTW, I have a friend with a Smart Controller, and my phone screen is the same size as his screen and nearly as bright. So I'm happy...

U.S. Forest Service trying to be F.A.A.

Also, the Forest Service would have to work with the FAA- the Forest Service and other land management agencies control the surface while the FAA controls the airspace. So the Forest Service can't prohibit drone flight in Wilderness Areas, only takeoffs and landings. A moot point because a drone...

U.S. Forest Service trying to be F.A.A.

Drones are not generally prohibited on National Forest lands, except in wilderness areas, where all mechanized equipment is prohibited. The National Parks' primary purpose is to preserve a piece of the natural world. For example, I live near Grand Canyon National Park, which is one of the...
