I just emailed with James about this. He's trying to get his drone back, and the next court date is on 2/16.

There is a new DA, and he may be a problem. But we'll see.

Updates as I get them. But he should not be charged, hopefully the judge will see this for what it is.

Yes, he didn't know about TRUST, but the cops who showed up didn't know the true rules about the TFR. So should they get in trouble for filing false charges? Ignorance of the law isn't a good defense in either case.
