Ipad mini 2 not connecting to RC

Help, just received a second hand mini 2 Wi-Fi as a dedicated tablet for my MP. I've tried two different cables, the dji cable and a USB lightning cable with no change. I have noticed that the ipad will recognize the RC for just a moment and try to charge but will then drop off with no connection. I've tried various on sequences but nothing seems to help. I am currently trying the newest iOS available along with a Go4 dump and reload.

Any other ideas?

Did you remove the cable from the left side of the remote controller before connecting the Lightning cable to the bottom of the remote controller?

Yup did that.

Tried my S7 and have no issues. IOS upgrade is almost done hopefully that will correct the problem.
