With a very easy and minimal modification to the folding arms you can fit an iPad mini 4 with a slim case in them. So no need for a tablet mount.

Tools needed: Exacto knife, .050 allen wrench, and a glue gun.

Here is how the iPad looks by the unmodified controller.

First step is to see where the arm stops are and mark them for removal. Do this for both sides.

Next carefully remove the material with the exacto knife. Do this for both sides.

Here you can see how much farther the arm will now move.

Next remove the 3 little torque screws from the bottom of each arm and slide to rubber grip pieces out. Do this on both arms.

The next step depends on your case and how it fits. If needed add hot glue to the groves for extra grip. Mine was a little loose so I added hot glue to the groves on the top and bottom of each arm.

Here is the controller folded up after the modification , you can barely tell. If you did not know, you might not even see it.

And here is the final fit, it works awesome.

Here is a video of how well it holds.

Is the sport mode button still accessible ?

Depends on if you mount the iPad all the in close to the Controller. It’s kinda of blocked but still accessible. If you slide the iPad out slightly then it is fully accessible.

Also a DIY Ipad Mount, but for Ipad Air2.IMG_7333.png IMG_7335.png IMG_7336.png

Nice looking mount:. This post was about not having a mount and using the arms alone!
After I observed the chopping of the controller I posted an alternative, which is one of many.

My IPad mini 4 fit without the mods. Just have to spread the controller arms

Does it fit with a case on the iPad?

I got tired of removing my case in order for it to fit, so I modified it. Now it fits with the case on the iPad, no need to remove it anymore.

Mine fits with a small silicon case from Amazon but excellent mod.

No it doesn’t fit with case but I have a cheap one that comes off pretty easy

Ditto. Very curious as to why all the fuss when it just slides right in.
My only beef is sometimes the arm pushes the switch to the sport position sometimes and blocks it somewhat. I just learned to check and you learn how to snag the little ridge with a fingernail..

I just use a sleeve. Wasn't obvious the mod was about accommodating an iPad mini with a case... I see it now but apparently my eye skated right by.

That’s what I do also
