I wonder how many people do not call the local heliport near you. It is in Part 107 of flight regs for sUAS:

"Location
Requirements

5 miles from airports without prior notification to
heliport/airport and air traffic control"

The next question is...if we all pony up and make our diligent calls each time we fly, how long will it be before the local helipads start bugging the FAA to stop us from calling? I know if I received 10 calls in a day regarding a drone flight, I'd think seriously about reaching out to the FAA to loosen those regs so I could get my work done.

Thoughts??

When I first got my Mavic I called the local airport and the lady told me that since I was just flying in and around my neighborhood (approx. 2 miles from airport) and I was staying under 300', it wasn't necessary for me to call her every time.

I said "I bet you are starting to get more and more calls every day about this". Her response was " more then you can imagine".

I bet they will get to the point that airports will be getting so many calls, that they will indeed ask the FAA to do something about the calls.
