I live in SGV and ha e a couple of places around my side of the city that I go to. San Gabriel reservoir is a nice spot. Some water, nice views over the valley. Whittier narrows is a nice big rec area where you don’t get hassled. Yeah it’s tough finding safe/legal and interesting places to fly...
You sir, are an ambassador for droning! I wish more people came across people like you - as opposed to the people you hear about that have no regard for safety or privacy.
I think the green just shows grassy/tree type area? You want to look for area without any yellow or red circles. If in doubt drop a pin on an area and it will tell you of any restrictions or advisory’s.
Anthony.
I use the app AirMap which is useful to show you all the restricted zones and why and lets you digitally notify certain air towers... sprinkled with a pinch of common sense.
LA is tricky to find areas that are legal, and interesting enough to fly.
Anthony.
I found a nice beachy cove at pales verdes - not that quiet, plenty of hikers/dog walkers and a few police and park rangers - who were totally cool with my flying as long as I wasn’t flying over people.
No restrictions that were posted. But I just do my best to be discreet. It’s a pretty quiet area... I’ve often gone early in the mornings anyway, when the lighting looks more dramatic.
Read the manual, use it in beginner mode till you are confident (so all your actions are slowed down). Use it in an open space. Listen to the assorted advice in this forum. Have fun :)
Welcome!! These forums are a great resource for drone frying. Also check out the regional forums for local info on spots to fly. I live in San Gabriel and try to post on good/safe places to fly and pick up on pointers from other locals.
