I use the 48 megapixel setting. If you use Photoshop or similar to process the raw image you will get a JPG that is significantly crisper than the JPG created in camera. Even this image has much better resolution than the 12 megapixel image.

I use one of these: https://loc8tor.co.uk/shop/ There are YouTube videos reviewing use with a drone. The range can be up to a couple of hundred feet and would work especially well if the drone is above ground level.
