    Drone hit a news helicopter

I think someone mentioned it might have been a bullet. If so, then they need to require everybody must undergo strict background checks in order to have a gun and not be able to fire the gun while in a city. Opps, that is already required. Point is that we can make all the laws in the world...

    mavic 2 at night

My Mavic 2 returns home with no issues. Just remember to keep the bottom light on auto, the bottom LED light will then turn on just before landing, if on auto return home.

New Dji go4 now with Waypoints (iOS & Android)

The Android version is not out in the US yet. I did have to do an update firmware update dated 1/24 V01.00.0300. The controller updated easily via wi-fi smartphone. Was unable to do the firmware update via the controller to my Mavic 2 (had this same problem with the November firmware update). So...

    Police came by my house

I think that every state, and in some cases, city, town, public parks, home association, etc, is going to have some rules in regards to drones. If not now soon. In my state NV, NV passed a law about drones. It basically parrots FAA rules, however, it mostly concentrates on government...

    Night time flying

FAA requires that the drone lights be visible from at least 3 miles away. Try the Firehouse ARC2 strobe lights. they tend to be the best strobe. Here is a critque of the three popular brands: You can see them and other type strobes mounted on Mavic Air on these two web sites. You can buy...

Suffolk farm drone in near-miss with Tornado jet

Does the DJI app warn you when you enter military routes? In the US the maps are marked were military routes are used along with altitudes. So I am thinking that this is one of those routes. I am retired military and I remember several times (rare) military aircraft striking power lines when...

    United States National Park Ban

The issue is that their are only 60 designated national parks. MOST of the lands NPS control are not designated national parks but fall under their control. As such the National Park Service sweeping drone band applies to 13 National Monuments, 21 National Preserves, National Historic Parks...

    Line of sight

Same here. It could be 100 feet in near me and sometimes I have a hard time finding it without looking at the DJI map or listening for sound. But once I have it in sight I can mostly keep track of it, if the sky or background has enough contrast, another issue.

Here's my first attempt at a night time hyperlapse.

I read that the FAA rarely approves night waivers for commercial drone pilots (107)? A web site said they disapproved 90 percent of request from commerical pilots. is that true? If it is, then something is wrong with the system. Seems it should be more easily allowed for commercial pilots.

    Reported near miss at LHR

Mostly pilot we see flocks of birds vs a single bird. Flocks of birds can cover a large junk of sky. However, most drones do not fly in flocks. I still think it was not a drone but another object, such as a balloon the pilot saw. Balloons have have caused crashes, but mostly with small aircraft...

    Reported near miss at LHR

Actually I have been in the cockpit of KC-10 aircraft and in the backseat of an F-15E strike eagle. I am prior Air Force and was assigned to a unit that flew KC-10 tankers. It was common for me to take a pulldown seat behind the pilot as they flew and to be in the back in the back watching the...

    Reported near miss at LHR

So if a pilot says so then it is true. In that case, aliens are visiting earth and flying saucers fly the skies. (ha)

    Reported near miss at LHR

It is common math. He would have less than 1 second to ID the drone before it passed him by. He is going 525 fps. To ID a typical mavic he would probably spot it out about 500 to 1000 feet, if he was looking right at it, and then it would only be a spot in the sky. Most likely it would mean at...

    Reported near miss at LHR

Common sense tells you that this story is probably not true. Like in the story, experts believed another case it was a plastic bag. Even then a plan going around 200 mph will most likely not see a two-foot diameter drone as they fly by at 200 plus mph.
