    Panorama process

    1) I currently import the JPGs into PTGUI. I won't use the DNGs until either Lightroom or PTGUI has a lens distortion correction profile for the Mavic Air, neither of which have such a profile yet. 2) Only thing you need to enter is 5.333 in the crop factor.

Little Panorama & Maximum Altitude tip

Just wanted to share something that was frustrating me and that I figured out by trial and error. I have maximum altitude set on my Mavic Air to 120m. I often tried to fly up to maximum altitude and then take a panorama. The app would say something similar to "Shooting not permitted at this...

    You need a different drone

Filming low and slow can really help with a more cinematic look.

Very cinematic! I like the super wide aspect ratio and the music is very well chosen too (what is it?) Are there any other techniques you're using to make this so cinematic? Low frame rate? Slow shutter speed? Some special color grading?

    Vertical panorama stitching

Exposure is automatically locked during the automatic pano shooting process. Just point the drone in the brighter or darker direction when you begin the pano to get darker or lighter panorama respectively.

    Vertical panorama stitching

You are correct. Lightroom can open and see the DNG file. But the lens has a lot of complex distortion and the DNGs will not be suitable for stitching until Adobe adds a profile for the Mavic Air lens to remove the distortion in each image. You can work with the JPGs now, because the drone's...

Landing protection off and downward obstacle avoidance

I've turned Landing Protection off because I want the option of landing on my hand if the ground is unsuitable. My question is: Does turning off Landing Protection also essentially turn off Downward Obstacle Avoidance? When I'm descending into an obstacle, how does the drone "know" I'm about...

    Vertical panorama stitching

Adobe products like Lightroom don't yet have a lens profile for the Mavic Air camera. So I'm using the drone's jpgs right now, and getting good results. I expect them to add a Mavic Air profile fairly soon (a few weeks?) and when they do I have the DNGs if I want to redo the panoramas.

    Vertical panorama stitching

The vertical panorama mode on the Mavic Air takes 3 images. In my opinion the drone doesn't do a very good job of stitching them together -- the picture looks like it has a lot of barrel distortion. However, the 3 images can be combined in lightroom very easily and give a great result. - You...

Workarounds for no dial controlling exposure compensation?

No. I think what he was referring to is that there is no longer a button option to make the gimbal point straight down/go back to it's set point. You can still move the gimbal up and down with the wheel.

Workarounds for no dial controlling exposure compensation?

Does touching the screen set the exposure for that spot? So you can touch the sky for darker exposure, or touch the land for brighter? And then you can AE Lock with a button?

    Options for viewing?

I imagine you could use the iPhone 6 to fly, connected by wire to the controller. And you could mirror the iPhone 6 to a MacBook with two steps: 1) Before you fly set up the MacBook to be a wifi hotspot. Here are instructions How to Setup an Ad-Hoc WiFi Network OSX 10.10 or higher Connect your...

    Panorama process

I'm really into shooting panoramas with the Mavic Air and wanted to share how high quality the results can be. While the panoramas straight out of the drone are pretty good, you can get higher resolution and fewer stitching artifacts by working with the individual images. Here is a pano shot...

Active track - best clothes colors? patterns?

I have the impression (can't prove it yet) that active track worked better yesterday when I was wearing an orange jacket than today when I was wearing a dark red t-shirt. Besides the obvious like not wearing green in foliage, or wearing grey on asphalt, are there any colors or patterns that you...
