    Mavic 2 Landing

The mavic 2, when I try to land, stops several feet above the ground and refuses to go any lower without holding down the stick all the way.. at which point it more or less lands automatically. Is there any way to disable this, and allow me to land manually? My old P3A used to hover at any...

Mavic 2 + Goggles RE package

Edit: Well, found one problem already - There's DJI Assistant 2 and, confusingly, DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic. I was using DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic because I have.. well, a Mavic, and that's what I used to update it. The goggles evidently require a different version of the exact same program (it...

Line of Sight - Are most flights illegal?

Except I can see for miles with my own eyes. My drone might not be visible because it's too small, but that cropduster 2 miles over is pretty hard to miss. So long as I can see what the drone sees and have gps navigation/instrumentation I know all I need to know to pilot the craft effectively...

Line of Sight - Are most flights illegal?

Blanket rules are never easy things to write. I don't have many issues with the rules as they are now, aside from the grey area as to whether or not they're rules, laws, regulations, suggestions.. where do they apply, where don't they.. I'd like peace of mind knowing what is and is not allowed...

Line of Sight - Are most flights illegal?

10 years ago the reasoning given for needing VLOS would have made sense. Today though? I can better determine location, altitude, speed, and direction of travel by looking at the data on my tablet. Observing the air traffic doesn't require me to see my tiny drone at all. Hell, I don't even need...

Line of Sight - Are most flights illegal?

One thing to keep in mind too is that I'm not talking about FPV goggles. I don't care for those at all, and think anyone using them should at the very least have a spotter. When I'm flying I almost always fly well beyond the point where I cannot see my drone, but I always check the sky around...

Line of Sight - Are most flights illegal?

The rules were not written for many areas, no. They were written for all areas, which is part of the problem. Even "established aviation law" for actual manned aircraft has different rules for a variety of situations and aircraft types. Drone laws are blanket all aircraft and all situation type...

Line of Sight - Are most flights illegal?

I did note that helicopters can forgo those rules, but you must not have noticed that. In my area helicopters are an extreme rarity. You only see one flying a couple of times a year, so they're not much of a concern. Beyond that, so long as I've got a clear view of the area I'm flying (which I...

Line of Sight - Are most flights illegal?

I've wondered about this topic myself quite a bit. So many of the rules (regulations? laws? mild suggestions? God, what are they even?) here in the US make no sense at all. If you're trying to fly a modern DJI drone using LOS.. you're doing it very, very wrong. The only time I ever actually...
