If DH say its due to a google update then chances are they are right, maybe try resetting your phone fully to see if that fixes the issue

In the slot on the right side is a slide button that changes from remote to wifi, i had a play with it once but my phone was an old iphone 4 and it didnt work well, i guess newer phones will work better.

You could always ditch the controller and just use the phone to fly the old Mp, its not great but it does work.
