Is the FAA Killing the Hobby? — Remote ID Myths

And as part of your fictious scenario it's somehow required to make it so that location is available to the general public. And someone who's going to do such a thing is certainly going to comply by making sure they have RID enabled on their aircraft. /s Making the pilots location publicly...

Is the FAA Killing the Hobby? — Remote ID Myths

If it's simply about airspace management then what's the purpose of advertising the location of the pilot? What does that have to do with airspace management?

Is DJI making a profit from Care Refresh?

They wouldn't do it if they weren't. Just like extended warranty on... anything. They don't do it to lose money. That's how any insurance works.

    AGL

In the U.S. the legal limit is 400' AGL unless you're within 400' diameter of a tower or structure (or cliff), in which case you can fly next to and up to 400' above that object. Find a 1000' tower and, assuming there are no other airspace restrictions, you can fly up to 1400' AGL as long as you...

    AGL

As long as you stay within 400' of the cliff you're perfectly fine flying at that 3000' AGL. Flying in a national park in the first place is what will get you in "deep do da". Regardless of the altitude.

WHY do people call it 'MISSIONS'???

That was very clear, to me at least, but I get why you have to clarify. I just couldn't help throwing more fire on this silly thread.

WHY do people call it 'MISSIONS'???

Regardless of what I call myself that's what the FAA calls me. Just as they call everyday flights "missions". Silly things to be concerned about.

What goes into a manned Pilot getting an instrument rating to fly? What do drones lack that prevents them from being instrument rated?

Curious how you're able to look around in IFR conditions Curious how you're able to look around to keep situational awareness in IFR conditions. If you could look around wouldn't that, by definition, be VFR conditions? I didn't do a lot of IFR training but what I did required wearing a hood so...

WHY do people call it 'MISSIONS'???

So you're saying that NOTAMs (notice to air missions) don't apply to us since we don't fly missions. Glad to know the FAA is using the word inappropriately.

WHY do people call it 'MISSIONS'???

They do it to annoy people who care about what other people call things. Do you have a better term? Why do you assume "mission" means a jet fighter going into enemy territory or has to do with fighting? A "mission" is a "flight" with a particular set of goals in mind. If you have no goal then I...

    Using HAM bands for drones

I didn't see any mention of intending to use it for commercial use but I completely agree, and I have been a ham for about 42 years. If that's relevant to the discussion. I would hope that anyone using 6m for repeater control and/or telemetry would abide by the band plan not use the portion...

POLL Did you pass part 107 the first try?

1st try but I already had a part 61 certification so a lot of it was remedial.

    Using HAM bands for drones

Why do you believe there would be an issue with FCC rules? The 6m band has a portion specificly designed for this use. I used to use it for an RC plane back in the 80's. Assuming he's licensed for it of course.

All New TRIPLTEK 8 Inch PRO. 1200 nits

I like the fact that if I have to carry the weight in my backpack that I can use it for other things like topo mapping or anything else I can load onto an Android device. Including a backup phone if I simply switch the SIM card over.
