Auto exposure gives better highlights and shadow details in high ISO than manual at lower ISO

Exactly, my topic explores the highlight and shadow details retention between the 2 exposure strategies, that defies the common best practices. It does not discuss noise levels as it's a given that higher ISO will make noise more visible. We can always drop shadows to reduce noise if those...

Auto exposure gives better highlights and shadow details in high ISO than manual at lower ISO

If you need to lift the shadows to balance the exposure, then more noise will become visible. We can't improve the physical DR with software, it's a hardware limitation. What could be improved, however, is the way the footage is recorded to allow for better latitude in post-processing. Footage...

Auto exposure gives better highlights and shadow details in high ISO than manual at lower ISO

No, there's no noise issue if a balanced exposure is what you're aiming for, as I mentioned previously. You'll need to do so in post, starting from a lower-quality footage and raise the shadows which will bring noise, or drop the highlights that might or might not have blown out already. On the...

Auto exposure gives better highlights and shadow details in high ISO than manual at lower ISO

There're no tradeoffs if a balanced exposure is what you're looking for. The camera will always do a better job recovering details before compression kicks in, compared to doing it in post. If you're recording raw videos then this doesn't apply.

Auto exposure gives better highlights and shadow details in high ISO than manual at lower ISO

You can think of this as the drone doing exposure balancing right in camera, whilst preserving the overall exposure value. Locked auto-exposure still allows that balancing to happen. There is an immediate change in the scene's DR when this is enabled, but other than that the exposure is static.

Auto exposure gives better highlights and shadow details in high ISO than manual at lower ISO

The point is to use Auto exposure but lock it so that exposure won't change mid-shot.

Exposure lock works on photo mode but not video?

This technology is available on some recent DJI drones such as the Neo, Air 3S and Mini 4 Pro (might also be available on others, I haven't checked). In RAW mode it shouldn't make a difference, but ProRes might still benefit from it because it's not a raw RAW format, as I understand it. The...

Exposure lock works on photo mode but not video?

No, the increased dynamic range comes from activating auto ISO and auto shutter speed only, instead of auto exposure i.e., Auto ISO & SS with Exposure lock enabled will provide increased DR. In other words, you'll get lower DR at the exact same ISO and SS in manual exposure mode but higher DR...

Exposure lock works on photo mode but not video?

Auto ISO & auto SS improve the dynamic range by about 2-3 stops that you won't get with manual exposure. This is a new trend in modern sensors with DCG.

130W laptop charger with the Air 3s

The Air 3 charging hub does seem to be rather strict/marginal. I have a charger similar to this one Amazon.co.uk and it'd often fail to charge at all, or only manages to charge for 15 minutes before stopping. I switched to a much higher capacity one Amazon.co.uk , it works with the charging hub...

130W laptop charger with the Air 3s

If you have a USB-C power monitor then it's also worth checking the voltage as well. The charge rate needs to be negotiated (whether by the charger/battery or both), it is possible that the battery is more relaxed than the charging hub and allows it to work at voltages slightly outside of the...

130W laptop charger with the Air 3s

Yes, I'd consider the charging hub defective if it cannot charge above 50W with the battery's SoC below 50%. The battery does adjust the charge rate dynamically once nearly charged, but you could expect 60W rate most of the time.

Recommended Sharpness and Noise Reduction settings?

An easy way to confirm lens/focus issue is to take RAW photos, you won't be affected by NR/Sharpness settings. To answer your question: Sharpness -2 and Noise Reduction -1 result in the best video quality on the Air 3S.

130W laptop charger with the Air 3s

I have the exact same one (along with another wall plug Anker charger and a couple of their power banks) and always get ~65W out of it. Using it to charge the Avata 2 I'd get either ~30W or ~60W depending on the battery's SoC and whether the hub was dual-charging. It sounds like your charger is...

    Air 3s and Goggles 3 / Motion Controller 3

The colour artifacts are due to the Quad-Bayer sensor design and could only be improved with better RAW debayering algorithms in post. This is not a bug but a hardware characteristic and I wouldn't expect this to be fixable in a firmware update. I shoot in 50MP exclusively except for Pano mode...
