    Repair shop/folks in Central Texas

I'm in Austin, Texas. I have a first gen mini with a broken arm, near the motor. The mini powers up (all 4 motors) and there are no errors in the app, but the arm is cracked and the motor dangles (pix included). Does anyone know of a repair shop in the Central Texas area (Austin, San Antonio...

What is your funniest/craziest/scariest drone rescue story (tree, water, mountain, etc.)

I doubt anyone will be able to top zaceshighz's cargo ship rescue (epic!), but I'm curious to know what lengths folks have gone to in order to rescue their Mavics when they've lost them or gotten them stuck somewhere. I was once stopped and questioned by police for standing on the hood of my...

    Put Your Mavic to Work

People are always offering to pay me to fly their site or project or sales listing. The offers vary from $50 to $500 to 'what would you charge?' but I don't want to get into that because I've got plenty of my own work to do. There are a lot of websites that offer drone aerials - if that's...

    Put Your Mavic to Work

Bad phrasing, sorry. I meant I don't charge for the aerials and I don't do any outside commercial work, I only fly my own construction sites. When I think of "commercial" work I think of fees and doing jobs for other people. Probably should have been more specific.

    Put Your Mavic to Work

I don't do any commercial work but I get bombarded by people in the real estate industry asking me to fly aerials and video for them. Advertise for residential or commercial real estate video or photos and you will have so much work you won't know what to do - ha!

    Put Your Mavic to Work

I use my Mavic and P3P to fly our construction sites each week to show our investors how things are progressing. It's so much easier to see the progress from the air than it is from the ground, especially on large projects, although I take ground photos too. I also use them for vacations, fun...

    Put Your Mavic to Work

I agree it's not worth the risk, but it's not that expensive to get a Part 107. The only requirement is to pass the exam. You can study for the exam using free online or printed resources and the exam costs between $170 and $250 depending on where you are located (in the US). You can take the...

    Ahhhha .. the first flight

Enjoy! Flying is one of the top 10 fun things to do. Makes you feel like a kid with a new toy (drones are not toys, but you know what I mean). :)

    Solved—-Ultrasonic System Error

Dariof was probably using something like these: I use the plastic version that are angled away from the sensors (below) and have never had a problem with them. Definitely would recommend leg extensions if you are not comfortable doing hand launches/catches and/or using a landing pad. I've...

What to do when your Mavic goes into atti mode - best practices

That's interesting. I have both a P3P and a Mavic, and I've flown the P3P in atti mode often, which feels very different than the 2 times my Mavic has briefly gone into atti mode. The P3P is much easier to control. However, I'd be interested in practicing atti on my Mavic as a just-in-case...

How often do you fly Mavic?

I WISH I had time to fly it more than I do, but at least one or two days a week for me. Try incorporating it into your hobbies or something you enjoy. For example, if you like to hike, not only fly it when you hike but join some hiking forums and post your images/videos there. It's not just...

    Austin, Texas “Pennybacker Bridge” 12/09/2017

I'm going to guess you were at the Austin Drone Meetup today. :) Nice footage. Thumbswayup One suggestion. Slap an ND filter on that lens and you'll cut down on the glare. Or if you are using one, use a higher rating. They are great - I never fly (during the day) without one.

First Flight Minor Crash - How to Force Land?

The downward sensors will pause the landing if it thinks the landing area is unsafe, however, if you hold the left stick down continuously, after about ~10 seconds the RC controls override and the Mavic will land anyway. 10 seconds feels like a long time, tho.
