Does anyone use an iPad for video editing and if so, which apps would you recommend? I've played around with Adobe Premiere Rush, while easy to use it seems to lack a lot of features and I don't see a lot of support for it from Adobe.

I've been flying the last couple weeks in the 80 and 90 degree weather and haven't noticed anything like that before. You should be able to check the battery temps to see if they are overheating.
