Mavic Air QuickShots and Obstacle Avoidance Disabled

Lost mine to a beach tree. Made the mistake of assuming the sticks would override the Quickshot program. Watched in a panic as the drone very slowly collided with a 4 foot high tree and fell into the sand and was totaled.

Mavic Air QuickShots and Obstacle Avoidance Disabled

Yeah, I really think that should be stated a bit more strongly. It isn't mentioned at all in the official DJI quickshot "how to" videos.

    Charge controller while flying

Yeah this worries me a bit too. I have only flown 3 batteries, but that brought the RC to below 50%. The RC takes so long to recharge which if fine for now since you need at least 5 hours to recharge 4 batteries in series. It's more of a concern later when the after-market charger comes out...

No stick override in smart capture mode?

Ah fair enough. Yeah, that was definitely the issue here.. not knowing what all the controls do. It was, in fact, the point of that flight, to discover what the controls would do in different situations.

No stick override in smart capture mode?

    Fair enough!

No stick override in smart capture mode?

That is what I have learned. The flight/pause button will be a life saver. That's new for me since I have been flying the Phantom 3 without this button.

No stick override in smart capture mode?

Ugh, a bit condescending. I was purposely on a vacant beach with only the smallest amount of obstacles. I was quite "situationally aware" of the small palm my drone was heading towards. As I said, I saw it and tried to take action but, this being a test flight with "quickshot" I was...

    About circle Quickshot

    That's really good to know!

    About circle Quickshot

That message comes to you from a Mavic Air owner who lost his drone to some nasty sand because of a sideways tree collision during a circle quickshot. My drone had about the softest collision possible with a tall fern while I was frantically trying to stop its slow demise by using the sticks...

    About circle Quickshot

Be warned that cancelling the quick shot in circle mode requires you to take your eyes off that drone that is heading towards a tree and find the tiny "x" on your screen. I feel it might be better if DJI incorporated a stick movement to cancel flight modes, especially ones that require the...

No stick override in smart capture mode?

As I mentioned in another thread, I had my first accident that resulted in some pretty significant drone damage. I was using Smart Capture to follow my friend running on the beach as he finished his run and started walking up to me, the drone continued in a slow circle around him. When I saw...

Don't land (or crash) in the sand!

That's crazy! That is pretty much the same thing that happened to me. My drone crash landed on a black sand beach in a small town in the Philippines. When I picked it up I saw that the dry sand was sticking to the outside of the motors and I figured the worst. I had to go two towns over to...

Don't land (or crash) in the sand!

That's a great idea. Though, this accident was more a result of my carelessness. I hand launch and land when on the beach

Don't land (or crash) in the sand!

Yeah, that was my thought too! I had considered getting the Refresh package, but decided against it when I read in another forum that the repairs were generally relatively inexpensive. I was really pleased to find out this was true. I live in Hong Kong, so the repair process here is really...

Don't land (or crash) in the sand!

That being said, the repair only cost me $125 and DJI actually just gave me a new bird, so I am pretty pleased with their service. I do not have the DJI Refresh package.
